Paper & Textiles

My work with paper, textiles, beadwork, and mixed materials explores identity, memory, play, and the emotional resonance of handmade objects. I am drawn to materials that invite experimentation and curiosity—treating them as sites of storytelling, connection, and personal history.

Over the years, I have created Lego paintings in saturated color, intricate embroideries, oversized beaded sculptures, handmade costumes, papier-mâché Alebrijes, and participatory textile installations. Many of these works emerged through teaching and community engagement, including projects created in support of my LGBTQ+ students and creative communities.

I approach making as both material exploration and acts of care, using repetition, texture, color, and labor to create work that feels tactile, intimate, and deeply human. Recent works increasingly incorporate handmade paper, stitching, layered surfaces, and archival materials to explore themes of migration, inheritance, family memory, and belonging.
